Why hello there you lovely person. Yes, you! No, not the madly waving person behind you...just you. You have arrived at a very nice place. While we have no unicorns, candy or coffee, we do have a contest! That's right, you've arrived at:

Name of Image
Name of Image

While the idea isn't entirely an original one, last year I decided that I wanted to host a poetry contest that promotes the writing of poetry. And what better way to do so than by holding an Anthology Contest - I am an aspiring poet who aims to publish an anthology one day, and I am sure that there are many more like me - where you have to write poetry that is specific, packs an impact and is anthology 'worthy'. Thus, MagicalJoey's Anthology Contest was born. It runs concurrently with NaPoWriMo ( NaPoWriMo ) so you can get your write on in April and polish and submit in May - or just do what I do and write/submit from gut feeling/creativity.

What This Is (About The Contest)

:bulletred: It's a contest, firstly, so there will be prizes.
I am looking for donations, and will be accepting donations until the submission time is up. You can donate and enter.
:bulletorange: You need to write poems that are joined by a common theme or setting. This can be anything you see fit - from butterflies to boats, tigers to witches.
:bulletyellow: The contest will run until the end of May (my birthday month) and then judging will commence.
I am looking for judges too. Judges cannot enter.

Rules and Guidelines

:bulletred: You must write a minimum of six (6) poems.
:bulletorange: All six poems must be submitted as one deviation.
This means: Either submit as a PDF with each poem on a page, or submit as a text deviation with all your deviations clearly demarcated by either a title or a line or something.
:bulletyellow: These pieces must be new to DA as of 20 March 2017.
:bulletgreen: The poems must be linked by a central theme or setting.
I.e. you've set them all in the 1940's or they are all about submarines.
:bulletblue: In your artist's comments please put the following:
:bulletpurple: A summation paragraph where you briefly explain your poems and setting. Things to include: Why you chose to write on what you did, what inspired you or what the setting/theme is (in case it isn't clear).
:bulletpink: A link to this journal, mainly for reference but also so that others can see about it.

:bulletblack: Mature content is allowed, although it's not encouraged. I do read it, but some of the others may not as it's personal preference.
:bulletpink: POETRY only please.
:bulletpurple: You may choose to write your poetry in fixed forms or free verse. It is up to you.

WELCOME TO

Hello guys! I am MagicalJoey, and I will be heading up some fun times and prompts from here on out (with the help of the team). We would like to jump start the group again, and with that – a bit of a challenge for March. If you aren’t all familiar with Special Holiday Fun, we are going to introduce you in the best way possible. Each month will feature a Special Holiday prompt for you guys to gain inspiration from and give us something wonderful!

ALSO! We shall be doing some weekly prompts for you as well. These are generally going to be photo or phrase prompts, but could also be word, music, video or Special Holiday Fun related and will vary in word counts to mix up the challenge. Everyone who enters this challenge will get a month long feature by the group, so we hope the incentive is high enough for you guys to really participate! Let’s see what you got!!

This year, 2017, is "International Sustainable Tourism for Development" year. While this doesn't sound all that 'writable', it does allow for short stories about other 'foreign' places or people, even some non-fiction too (think travel experiences, sans Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). So, if you want to write anything on this prompt you have 2017 words (see what I did there) minimum to write your story. (Try not to make it more than 10k words...some of us readers are old and wear glasses and all that jazzy stuff).

Tourism Invasion by AlexandreGuilbeault     tourism by ssilence     tourism by sliwka

Kitchen tourism - Family One by Didou83     the dancers by grevys     Ireland by fredrickburn

February, among other things, is "Women's History Month" (it's also 'cheerleading safety month' and 'umbrella month') so your challenge will be to write something relating to women's history, or a short historical fiction piece. (Need help with historical fiction? I'm sure the lovely doughboycafe or neurotype would be able to give you a crash course!) Any particular woman/women in history tickle the writing taste buds? We want to hear about them! You have no word limit for this story, but it must be a decent story and fit within DA's file size.

Boudica, the bringer of victory by nathaliagomes     Women Warriors: Horny Viking vs Historical Viking by Gambargin     Death of Salome by KristinaGehrmann

Now, for Weekly Prompts. Due to a very high work load I am unable to update this regularly each week, so what I will do is place all four week's prompts at once. This gives you the added option of doing a future week's prompt if you don't like the current week's one. Weekly prompt entries will be placed in the featured folder for the next month, along with the month's entries, giving you a whole month's feature on our page.

Week One: 1 March - 5 March:
Wed March 1 is 'World Compliment Day' and so for this first week I challenge you to write something nice about someone else. The person can be real or fictional, for example you could write a short compliment for the Incredible Hulk telling him what a nice shade of green he is. The trick with this prompt? It has to be ENTIRELY dialogue based! You have no word limit for this, but try to keep within DA's range.

Flattery by cjwolf207     McMorbid - Compliments by Rimfrost     Compliment by Hazard-Girl

Week Two: 6 March - 12 March :
Monday 6 March is 'Fun Facts About Names Day' and so for this challenge you need to write a story around one of two things: 1) How you got your real name or 2) How you decided on your DA name. This can be fiction, but non-fiction is preferable. You have 2930 words maximum.

The Name Of The Rose by lady-amarillis     The Name of the Wind by MarcSimonetti     Name by raqmo

Week Three: 13th March - 19th March:
Thursday 16 March is 'Freedom of Information Day' and with that in mind you can write about anything that you want provided it's 3000 words or less.

freedom by hidlight     Freedom by SIVKOFF     freedom by ahmetorhan

Week Four: 20th March - 26 March:
Monday 20 March is 'Snowman Burning Day'. Write a story, or a poem, about a snowman or having to do with snowmen. You have 423 (spells 'ice') words maximum...so think Flash Fiction!

Snowman by MattDixon     Charred Snowman by kalicothekat     Snowman by AlexBoca

Week Five: 27 March - 31 March:
Friday 31 March is 'World Backup Day' so write us a story about something that happened/happens when you forget to backup your PC/tablet/phone. Added challenge: make your entry a Six Word Story (check out SixWordStories for guidelines as to what exactly this is/entails)

Backup by D4N13l3     :Computer: by DEVlANT     Save. Our. Souls. by AquaSixio

And that, my friends, is when March ends and the month of Spring begins. Enjoy! And remember, any questions can come directly to the group, to myself MagicalJoey or to any one of the admins (who may or may not be active/on breaks so you might not actually get an answer).

Journey to AtlantisMy little human, do come with me,
for there is something I wish you to see.
A fantastic world within your own;
something to experience, not merely be shown.
I take your hand and stand by your side,
wondering if you’ll be curious or hide,
because I recall with a smile the moment we met,
your fear and curiosity—how could I forget?
You no longer flinch at my displays of affection,
so I curl my fingers around your own in protection
the moment you look forward once more
and greet the lone figure to come ashore.
You tense up and freeze in place,
exposed to another intelligent race,
but then softly you begin to speak,
intrigued by his Atlantean mystique.
He is clearly amused by your fascination
and patiently gives answers for some duration,
but my darling, time waits for no one
and our adventure has only just begun.
Taking turn, he dives into the water,
so, my beloved, shall we go in after?
I watch your eyes wide with fear,
but squeezing my hand, your answer is clear.

          Winter BalladThe winter comes on lazy wings and brings us frost and cold,
While autumn beat retreat with care, grown brown, and bent and old.
Though winter likes to come each year with laugh as cold as ice,
It chuckled softly in this year in repentance of all vice.
But maybe yet its cold will burn the lingering grasses green
And leave the earth all brown and bare with no light in between.
Perhaps despite its gentle start, it never once repented--
Not wholly of its cruelties, nor of its bite relented.
Deceptive is the winter mild that bows the autumn out
With gentlemanly courtesy. He soon shall turn about
and crack the earth and beat it bare, turned frosty, cold, and dark;
Oh winter, thou unkindest wind, blow out all lasting spark.

Driven by DeterminationHow could such a task be expected of a child?
Just mere thought of him succeeding was wild,
But dare to try he did, though he knew for sure
His patience, determination and skills would have to be pure.

Older ones with more experience had failed to succeed;
He saw it as a golden opportunity, for by doing the deed,
He would show what he was capable of and earn some pride
That could only be attained through a long, bold stride.

He raised his trusty weapon, clutching it tightly with each hand;
The mighty power it held was all his to righteously command.
A deadly foe awaited him, having claimed many lives before;
"I'm going to beat you, just you watch!" he bravely swore.

The monster was unpredictable, attacking with rock, fire and ice;
The boy had to be quick on his feet, no time for him to think twice.
From all around the young lad was attacked, but he was ready;
He jumped, ducked, and dodged every barrage, keeping calm and steady.

The beast, however, cont

2-12-16
There was a night I heard a scream of pitch both high and sharp,
'Woke I in fright from a great dream to light within the dark.
With heavy head and leaden limbs I tried to voice protest;
For I had been disturbed from a super time of rest.
The light was bright, it hurt my head and, blinking, I did sigh
As I wiggled toes to assess mine life and rubbed my bleary eyes.
With fingers stiff and brain half alive I tried to leave my bed,
But sleep was tugging at my soul and my muscles felt like lead.
My eyes did close, for sleep had won, whenceforth came another scream,
Whose pitch and tone did pierce like knives and rip me from my dream.
From yonder room I heard a thud as feet took to the floor
And my father, he came running through to see what was the score.
I must admit I did eavesdrop, for my protestations were too weak
And I was too tired to open up my mouth from which to speak.
"What ails you dear? What be the meaning of this unearthly so

I'm sorry you feel that way, but we do not tolerate this kind of behaviour in our group. If you have a problem with an individual then please take it up with them personally rather than using the group to make it a public issue.

Hey there,
I normally don't do this but I'm getting kinda desperate. Is there someone who I can talk to about my feelings? I am experiencing a lot of panic and anxiety kind of attacks. My breath is short and fast and I can feel my heartbeat pounding. I really feel like I'm wearing out and I don't know what to do..:(

Well it kinda comes in waves :/ No I haven't, I don't feel like it's important enough to actually go to the doctor. Plus, I don't want to go to a psychologist again (5th time)... my parents will think I'm just nagging

You have to remember that your brain is an organ in your body. If something goes wrong with it its just as valid as if you had pains in your kidneys. Your brain wants you not to seek help, itll tell you things like its not important, but its wrong. You are important and deserve to be happy. :tighthug:

Hi everyone, I'm Lori.  It's been quite a while since I've been here but my battle with lupus was kicking my ass for quite a while there.  It still is, of course, but I'm no longer wishing it would hurry up and kill me.  Actually, I have decided not only that I want to live but I am taking my Dr's advice and having a gastric bypass in the hopes of having MORE of a life.  The problem?  I need some money to pay the GI doctor before the surgery because Medicare doesn't cover it.  If you are unable to donate believe me, I understand.  Maybe you could share the site link on Facebook or Twitter or whatever else is out there?  Please also read the article at the end.

My full story is at gofund.me/LoriLife  Please, before you leave this page I ask you to read this short article about something called The Spoon Theory.  Maybe it's been shared here before because it's relative to a lot of us.  Everyone at some point will know someone with a chronic illness.  This article will give you important insight and help you understand them better.  I wish you well and thank you for any help you can offer.

Thank you,

Lori. gofund.me/LoriLife
